Tuesday: Firenze, Italia

Florence...Art. Renassance. Power. just a few words that come to mind when we think of this great city. I greatly enjoyed walking around and learning a bit about this monumental city (thanks to previously downloaded Rick Steves' walking tours.)

Fountain of Neptune...don't remember who carved it, but I DO remember Michelangelo's reaction to it saying it was a waste of such lovely marble...ouch!

the powerful Medici Family's castle

boo...the copy of the original David was being cleaned...had to settle for a picture on the thing covering the copy of the original :)

Ponte di Vecchio in the background. literally "Old Bridge."

the bridge is lined on both sides with jewelry shops.

gelato was created in Florence (or said to be) and the shops definitetly did a great job of marketing it!

the Duomo cathedral
its dome was modelled after the Pantheon in Rome by Filippo Brunelleschi and weighs 37,000 tons and contains over 4 million bricks. Again, it was Michelangelo who painted its interior.

sweet perspective that makes him look much further away than he actually is.
