Sunday: Roma, Italia

For our first full day in Roma, we set out on to explore the ancient wonders that Roma has to offer! Our first stop was the so-called "wedding cake" building (The Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II that is made of stones that are so white that it make the building look like a wedding cake), the Colosseum and the Forum (Ancient Roma's main street).

The wedding cake is in the background, lower left are some columns from the Forum and the Trojan column.

First view of the Colosseum

Inside of the Colosseum, these mazes of walls used to be underneath the floor where animals, gladiators, etc. waited before the main events. At the far end there is a wooden platform similar to what the floor would have been and looked like in ancient times.

Love this pic. Check out the shades!

This building seriously looked like a painting, had to take a picture.

View of the Forum from the Colosseum.

The happy couple after a long day of sight seeing. With so much to see, this was the only picture snapped of us two. Whoops! After the long day Katie and I picked up some Parmesan Reggiano on the way home to have with our dinner of pasta and the best pesto ever that we bought in the Cinque Terre.
